Hello Buzzers! Welcome back 🙂

How have your holidays been so far?

(you can use this as a summer-themed wallpaper if you want)

Lots of people like to read during the holidays and so do we, so here’s a small list of enjoyable books you could try this summer! If you have any book recommendations (any language) feel free to tell us in the comments, we’ll definitely check that book out! This is an addition to our book club, where we have quizzes and book recommendations monthly, you can check it out here!

So, here are books we’ve read (or want to read) and recommend! Tell us your honest opinion on these books in the comments too 🙂

1. Hi-Score Girl #1

This is a pretty eccentric manga, we read the French version (since we’re in France) so it might differ to the language you’d read it in! It follows the story of a boy who’s obsessed with video games, and finds the person he’d least expect in a video game arcade, Akira Ono, they form a friendship over time, bonding over their love of video games. If you like video games, or somewhat quirky mangas like Mob Psychoo 100 or mangas overall, then you’ll probably like this too!

Rating: 8.4/10

2. Death Note (Black Edition) #1

I have allll the Death Note mangas in one large collection so I’d already read it, but my mom found a Black Edition that looked really cool, so I decided to read this one again, and I liked Death Note twice as much! I’m more of a manga person than an anime person, but Death Note is even better in the manga! It’s a great story overall so I’m not surprised I liked it so much!

Rating: 9.5/10

3. Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children #1

It took me a long time to finish this book as I was reading a lot of books simultaneously, so I don’t think I enjoyed it as much as I normally would, but it was still a great book, when I was younger, around 9, I tried to watch the movie adaptation but I was too scared so I never got to finish it, maybe I should watch it… Overall, it was a really interesting book that was pretty intriguing.

Rating: 8/10

4. Tokyo Ghoul #1-5

Normally I prefer stuff that is subtly scary and not so outrightly gory (which Tokyo Ghoul is), there is a LOT of gore in this book, which I was half-expecting, it’s really immersing though, and I wouldn’t recommend for people who are sensitive to gore, I recommend checking book 1 instead! I normally read this book in broad daylight (cuz, yknow) so I also get a bit scared. I really liked Book 5, which was the one I read most recently! I recommend Death Note if you like scary stuff but light gore (close to no gore in the manga.)

Rating: 9/10

5. Sea of Strangers

A book of poetry by Lang Leav. I found out about her books a long time ago but I never found them anywhere near, and since there are mainly French books in France, I had trouble finding Lang Leav books too :/ It’s not her most popular book but it seems really really nice!! Her most popular book is ‘Sad Girls’, I’d really like to read that one too ! You can also check out her website here! She doesn’t only write poetry, by the way, she’s written 2 very popular novels! You can read an excerpt of her most popular book here.

6. The Queen’s Gambit

I am soo close to finishing this book, I’ve been reading a LOT at the moment so it gave me time to try a lot of new books! This book can get a bit weird at times, and I’ve been confused as it is mainly around chess and the protagonist, Beth, and her struggles. There are some sensitive themes and it can get quite sad at times, I recommend for people who are okay with sensitive themes and who aren’t bothered by sad stories.

Rating: 8/10
